Rummy had arrived in the US by the late 1800s, where it quickly became very popular. The game became common in homes and parlors and was frequently played in social settings. Many regional variations of the game, each with its own set of rules and subtleties, emerged as a result of the game's introduction into American culture. The word rummy itself is thought to have come from the word rum, a reference to the social setting that frequently surrounded the game.
  • Players have the option of selecting the top card from the discard pile or drawing from the top of the draw pile when it is their turn. They have to discard one card from their hand after drawing. A round is considered to be over when a player successfully melds all of their cards & discards their final card. In most cases, scoring is determined by adding up all of the unmelded cards that are still in each player's hand; face cards are worth more points.
