The World Poker Tour is in Cyprus for the WPT Prime Cyprus Championship, and things are heating up fast. The $1 million guaranteed main event is in its penultimate flight, but it’s the $660 Bounty PLO side event that’s stealing the spotlight with some seriously wild action.
When the hand took place, only 33 players remained from 96 entries—and that was just at Level 9. In one of the most insane hands so far, three players were eliminated in a six-way all-in, and none of them even had aces!
If you’re not watching this, you’re definitely missing out.
Dealer Has His Work Cut Out
With the blinds at 1,000/2,000/2,000bba, Claude Bedran opened to 7,000 from under the gun with J♣10♠10♣2♣, and Hassan Niknezhadi, holding 10♦10♥6♦6♥, jumped in. Onur Salman, sitting in middle position with A♣K♠8♠2♥, shoved his last 10,500. With a $300 bounty on the line, Ilan Verdnikov, holding Q♣J♦5♦4♣, wasn’t about to miss out and went all-in for 21,500 from the cutoff.
That’s when table captain Abdurrahman Kucuk K♦K♣8♣3♥slid in a big raise with a pile of T-5,000 chips. In the small blind, Serkan Demirkol K♥9♦7♥4♠threw in his last few big blinds, and just like that, Bedran and Niknezhadi committed their chips as well, setting up a massive pot with plenty of bounties up for grabs.

Kucuk just needed his kings to hold to claim a $1,500 bounty haul, which was more than the sixth-place payout of $1,250. But the Q♦8♦3♦flop brought some drama, as both Verdnikov and Niknezhadi hit flushes. Verdnikov had the better flush, but Kucuk still had outs, hoping his two pair—eights and threes—could turn into a full house. The 2♦turn left Demirkol and Bedran drawing dead, while Salman, holding eights and deuces, was hoping for a duck to make a boat of his own.
The Q♥river sealed the deal, giving Verdnikov and Niknezhadi the checkmarks. Verdnikov took down two bounties and the main pot, while Niknezhadi pocketed an extra $300 and the side pot.
The top 13 players will make the money and take their respective slices of the $28,800 regular prize pool ($28,800 in bounties). The min-cash is set at $700, while the winner will be awarded $8,575.
At the time of publishing, the final table bubble had just burst, with Andrew Studley bowing out in tenth place. Leonard Dirlewenger holds the chip lead with the blinds about to increase to 4,000/8,000/8,000bba.

- Based on the cards that are drawn and discarded during play, patterns frequently form, giving you important information about the melds that you or your opponents might be attempting to create. A player may be trying to finish runs or sets involving cards from a specific suit or rank if you observe, for instance, that multiple players are routinely discarding cards from that suit or rank. You can modify your approach and decide which cards to keep or discard more intelligently if you pay attention to these trends. Also, you can predict possible moves from your opponents by being aware of common Rummy sequences. 25-04-04
- Some cards that might later form melds may be advantageous to hold onto early in the game. Eliminating high-point cards, which could result in serious penalties if another player wins the round, becomes more crucial as the game goes on and you approach elimination. It takes time and experience to balance these factors, but you can greatly enhance your overall Rummy performance by improving your discarding techniques. 25-04-04
- Two or more players can participate in the game, and the rules can change slightly based on the particular variation being played, like Gin Rummy, Indian Rummy, or Kalooki. Depending on the variation, players are dealt either seven or ten cards to start playing Rummy. With one card facing up to begin the discard pile, the remaining cards form a draw pile. Each player draws from the draw pile or the discard pile, after which they discard one card from their hand. Points are determined using the remaining unmelded cards in each player's hand after the round is over & one player has successfully melded all of their cards. 25-04-04

- With this information, you can decide which cards, based on their possible point value, to pursue and which to avoid. Think about how you can strategically blend and discard to control point opportunities as well. For example, it might be prudent to focus on melding lower-point cards first & save your high-point cards for later in the game, when you have a better idea of your opponents' hand combinations, if you have high-point cards that aren't in any melds. You can minimize possible losses and put yourself in a successful position by strategically managing your point opportunities throughout each round. Any rummy player hoping to get better must be able to recognize important patterns & sequences. 25-04-04

- Also, it's critical to consider how wild cards may affect the hands of your rivals. The presence of a wild card in the discard pile may be a sign that an opponent is almost finished with their melds. In these situations, think about changing your approach by eliminating cards that might enable them to finish their runs or sets. You may take advantage of this potent aspect of rummy to obtain an edge over your opponents by being conscious of how you use wild cards and how they impact other players at the table. The core of Rummy gameplay is melting, which is necessary to win. 25-04-04
