Israeli citizen Ephraim Hertzano invented the modern game of Holy Rummy in the 1940s. Hertzano invented Holy Rummy by fusing aspects of the classic card game Rummy with the tile-based game Mahjong. The game became well-liked in Israel very quickly, and it then extended to other nations.
