Jokers are a useful tool for completing sets or sequences that would be challenging to accomplish with the cards you are holding alone. For example, if you have two cards in a row but don't have the third card required for a pure sequence, you can use a joker to finish the meld and lower your total score. Jokers should not be relied upon excessively, though.
